On this page you will find resources designed to create opportunities for children and young people to thrive in the classroom, on the sporting field or in a dance studio.
AllPlay About Me Medical Summary
This document can be used to share relevant information with teachers/coaches about your child’s needs and supplied to schools, dance teachers and sports coaches, and your medical carers to ensure everybody has this important information to be able to support your child.
Some children may be at higher risk of injury if they participate in some activities. Ask your child’s doctor if there are any movements that need to be avoided (e.g., jumping, rolling).
It is important to tell your child’s teacher/coach so they can adapt activities as needed using the AllPlay About Me summary form.
AllPlay Endorsed Strategies for Parents
We have used research to design AllPlay endorsed strategies for teachers and coaches to enable children to learn, connect and play.
Advocate on behalf of your child. With a little planning, coaches can usually make simple adaptations to activities which don’t take up much time. If you notice the coach may need an extra set of hands to make the session run smoother, perhaps ask if you can be of any assistance.
Reflect on your thoughts and expectations for your child’s participation (eg. worry about your child getting injured), and how they might be impacting on your child’s experience.
Model the behaviour you want your child to develop. For example, if you want your child to participate in Footy, perhaps get out on the field and kick a Footy around with them!
The links below will allow you to become familiar with the strategies that are currently being recommended to teachers and coaches to support your child.
